They're getting sloppy and their level design is terrible. I could keep going but I'm on phone and this took sodding ages! Maybe later.įirst of all, DIMPS needs to go. When it takes a half second to turn around (or sometimes not at all, if you're airborne) this can really screw you over. Sonic dashes in the direction the model is facing, it has nothing to do with the direction the user is pushing in. Sega's done a much better job recently but they're still there.įinally, whoever scripted the boost in generations is an absolute anus. The light dash for instance - damn near impossible to hit some of those (but hey, count yourself lucky its on its own button now! In sa2, it was the same button as smash violently into the ground.
It works because if you fail there's a very minor penalty and you're much more likely to get it right next time (your finger is always on the jump button) Those little ramps that slow you down, if you tap jump sonic will do a little hop and maintain speed. Worse, this mechanic is already in the game elsewhere, done right. You're right about the slide, it really is a dim idea to have a button specifically for getting past a gap that occurs maybe 8 times in the whole game. I think some of what you say is right, I feel like a huge chunk of sonic generations was fighting with the engine or daft mechanics.
